Paid Subscriptions Enabled on Substack

After many hours of consideration and my interest in reporting the truth and in some cases, my perspective on events that seem to be repeated with little or no research, I have enabled the paid subscription feature on my substack.
Posts will also be available for free - the paid option is simply to allow folks who would like to support my writing efforts!
Please see below for the link, and feel free to subscribe, or not.
Thanks!

Best,
Mari

Cafe Tamburo on Substack

Hey Everybody!

Hope this note finds you well.  I'm now writing Cafe Tamburo on Substack, and have kept the same tagline.

I'm not yet offering a paid subscription,  and pledge to keep it free, because I abhor paywalls for several reasons -- Maybe the same reasons I love libraries, from the big buildings to the little free libraries scattered around the planet.

Subscribe over here: https://maritamburo.substack.com

 Thanks!

Best,

Mari

Little Things

I'm not really much of a "thing" person, but I do appreciate good, functional design. You may recognize this iconic citrus juicer by designer Philippe Starck. I remember seeing it in the window of the Alessi store in 1988, shortly after I arrived in San Francisco. I saved up for it and can still remember how excited I was when I walked into the store and bought it.

It seems so extravagant until I remind myself of the joy it brings me just to look at it - it looks like a cross between an alien spaceship and a three legged robot spider.

Plus, I squeeze the juice at home, so it has paid for itself long ago!

Straight from orange to the glass at home, No plastic bottles needed.

It works best for me when I place it on a table, as I find it a bit too tall for the kitchen counter.

For a better view, check it out on the MOMA site.

I first posted about this on my personal Facebook page. If you do Facebook, feel free to join me over there☺😎

A Bite of Local News: Arizmendi San Rafael On the Move!

Worker co -op Arizmendi Bakery San Rafael "is moving to a new location...just down the street and further into the heart of San Rafael's beloved downtown."  They will be closed for approximately 6 months during the build out.

What this means is, they are having a sale prior to closing on September 3rd!

From their website:

"Our closing date will be Sept 3 so make sure to come and get your delicious pastries, pizza, sandwiches and coffees while we are open. Starting on Aug 29 all our tote bags and t-shirts will be 50% off, while all of our wine bottles will be 25% off. We will also be making an excess of pizza prep kits, corn cherry scone kits..." and they will also be selling some wholesale ingredients like flour, sugar, butter, and coffee grounds and beans.

So, if you are in the neighborhood, stop by Arizmendi this weekend for a deal and to help this worker owned co-op fund their rebuild. Their hours are 7am - 7pm. They expect to reopen around March or April of 2024, but you know how construction projects go, they ask for some patience, and invite us all to sign up on their email list or follow them on Instagram to get the news on their reopening.
